Stephen Johnson (Chinese 詹思文) (Griswold, Connecticut, 15 April 1803-Gouverneur, New York, 1886) was an American missionary in China. He graduated Amherst College in 1827, then Auburn Theological Seminary 1829-1832.〔The Missionary herald: Volume 36 - Page 24 American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions 1840 "Stephen Johnson, born Griswold Ct.; graduated AC 1827, Auburn 1832;...."〕 In 1847 he founded the first Christian mission in Fuzhou where he remained till 1853 when he returned to America.〔Handbook of Christianity in China: 1800 to the Present - Page 155 N. Standaert, R. G. Tiedemann - 2009 "The American Board would also see its ranks and its presence in China expand during this first treaty port period. ...
